Bike MS: Valero 2011 Alamo Ride to the River, Oct. 15 - 16
WHO & WHAT
On Oct. 15 -16, cyclists will pedal from San Antonio to New Braunfels and back for the 22nd Annual Bike MS: Valero Alamo Ride to the River, presented by H-E-B. An estimated 2,000 participants with varied cycle experience will start and finish the scenic, two-day journey from San Antonio to New Braunfels and back. Supporting the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, the ride aims to raise awareness and generate $1.3 million in critical funds to support the more than 56,000 Texans affected by MS.
Registration for Bike MS: Valero 2011 Alamo Ride to the River costs $40, plus a minimum pledge commitment of $300, through Aug. 31. From Sept. 1 – Oct. 14, registration is $50, in addition to the minimum pledge commitment. Visit bikeMStexas.org to register to ride, volunteer or make a donation. Individuals interested in joining or creating a team can sign up online with co-workers, friends, family or neighbors. Bike MS: Valero is geared towards riders aged 12 years and older.

Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 15-16, 2011
WHERE
Cyclists will put the pedal to the pavement on Saturday, October 15 and set off for the beautiful, rolling Texas Hill Country from the AT&T Center in San Antonio, a new location for this year. Participants have the option of riding one or two days and can choose from three mileage options on Day One, which include: a 45-mile ride to the Arby’s Lunch Stop Express at Texas Lutheran University, where a shuttle will run to the overnight location at the Comal County Fairgrounds in New Braunfels; a 65-mile route into New Braunfels, or the Pfizer River Road Challenge, a 95-mile option along River Road. On Sunday, cyclists will return on a 55-mile stretch from the Comal County Fairgrounds in New Braunfels to the finish line at the AT&T Center.

WHY
Bike MS: Valero 2011 is one of five outstanding fundraising rides hosted by the National MS Society in Texas. Other rides include Bike MS: The Wild West Ride in the Texas Panhandle in July, Bike MS: Cactus and Crude Ride in West Texas in July, the BP MS 150 from Houston to Austin in April, and Bike MS: SAM’S CLUB Frisco to Fort Worth in May. These rides are regarded by cyclists as the premier rides in the state, with experienced management, well-coordinated routes, and special attention to rider safety and comfort.
